The Sunshine Room is the school’s nurture class led by Mrs Riding and Mrs Moran. Children are selected to be part of the group based on their personal, social, and emotional development. They access the same curriculum as children in the other key stage 1 classes with a greater emphasis on developing key skills necessary for effective learning e.g. speaking, listening, playing, solving conflicts, and participating.  We also focus on developing other key areas on an individual basis e.g. self-esteem, confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.

Children attend the group each morning and rejoin their class for registration, assembly, and playtime. They are usually part of the group for 2-4 terms before being reintegrated into the bigger classes full-time.

Nurture is a safe, calming environment where the unique developmental needs of each child are met. It provides our children with a warm and welcoming environment that contains aspects of both home and school. We have sofas, soft toys, our own kitchen, and plenty of space indoors and outdoors to work and play.

Our Sunshine Room is primarily for children in key stage 1 as we value an early intervention approach, however, the room is a safe haven for all children and staff at Charles Saer School. The nurture room’s principles reflect the whole school’s nurturing ethos.

Please call the Sunshine Room if you have any questions!
