Design Technology
DT is all about investigation and exploration of products and design. Undertaking design and technology activities in school will give our children opportunities to use a range of materials and processes; to explore, evaluate and amend ideas; and to build on their skills for both independent learning and team work.
Each topic starts off with looking at and investigating products, looking closely at how they have been made, materials and processes used. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.
We want the children to explore, ask questions and discover things for themselves; not only investigating the materials and processes but thinking about the tools that have been used and the tools that they could use. At each stage of the process we encourage our children to ask : Which products/materials/tools are best? Why? Would you do anything different?
Children are encouraged to consider how their design skills would we used in careers in the future and have an understanding of influential people in engineering and design over the years.
